What are Bioflavonoids?
A bioflavonoid and flavonoids is the same thing. You can see how people get the two confused because of the word bio, but they have the same meaning. What the meaning is that it is a class of plant of secondary metabolites. The plant secondary metabolites means the chemical compound found in some organisms that are not directly involved in the growth, development or reproduction of the organism.
The bioflavonoids are most commonly tied to their antioxidant activity, fighting off damage to the cells by environmental or bodily pollution. Bioflavonoids or flavonoids are found in foods such as in berries and in onions, parsley, green tea, red wines and dark chocolates.
The citrus fruits that contain the bioflavonoids not only have antioxidant activity by they also have elevated levels of Vitamin C in the cells. This makes it beneficial to you because it affects the blood flow. They also may contain some anti allergy and anti-inflammatory qualities.
Green Tea has been touted as the best antioxidant since chocolate. Green tea has been marketed to help prevent cancer by blocking cancer-causing cells. To an extent that is true, but remember the Green tea will act as a preventative precaution not a full line block of cancel cells. There is no oxidation in green tea making it act more like an antioxidant than regular black tea.
Eating citrus fruits, chocolates and certain vegetables and drinking green tea is a sure way of keeping your body free and clear of bacteria and any body pollution that occurs. But remember they are not the answers to curing any disease. They will most definitely keep you healthy and in the long run that is what is important.
